Public Traceroute Servers

This is a list of publicly accessible Traceroute servers.

Select several starting points in various parts of the country, and trace back to the ISP your are considering.

Here are some of the important things to observe:

• As the trace approaches the ISP, are all paths going over a single backbone provider, or does the ISP have several different paths in case one of the backbones is having problems?
• Are the paths short or long? (over 15 hops would be considered long)
• Are the times less than 100 ms?
• Is there packet loss anywhere (usually indicated by a * in the time)
